Anamosa welcomes the 25′ tall American Gothic Statue.

Anamosa American Gothic Statue

A description of the work reads:

Grant Wood was born Feb. 13, 1981 on a farm east of Anamosa. His best-known work is “American Gothic” portraying a farmer holding a pitchfork with his daughter primly at his side. American Gothic is one of the few images to reach the status as a universally recognized cultural icon, comparable to Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa.”
Still standing just east of Anamosa on HIghway 64, is the one-room Antioch schoolhouse Grant attended between 1987 and 1901. Grant passed away on Feb. 12, 1942 and lies at rest in Anamosa’s Riverside Cemetry on the west side of town.
